2. CHAPEL

Chapel is held at least once a month for each grade level. Teachers or guest speakers will deliver the message and/or lead songs.

All students are required to attend chapel and are expected to bring their Bible and to participate in the service. Those attending chapel are expected to maintain a worshipful and respectful atmosphere during the service.

3. HOMEWORK

Homework may be assigned for the following reasons:

  • To reinforce skills.
  • To encourage responsibility.
  • To complete unfinished school assignments, if unable to complete work in class.                                                                                                                             At the lower elementary level (grades K-3), homework should be very limited. At the upper elementary level (grades 4-6), homework may become a little more involved, and at the middle school and secondary levels (grades 7 and higher), additional time for homework will be required.

At the secondary level, homework is vital to a student’s success in class. Homework should be done at home and not just before class begins each day. “Sharing” homework is considered cheating. Teachers may give homework grades as part of their report card grades. Failure to complete homework assignments may result in disciplinary action. Teachers will expect all homework to be done. Late assignments may have grades lowered or counted as a “zero,” at the discretion of the teacher.

Repeated late or missing homework offenses will be dealt with on an individual basis according to the severity. Teachers may implement a variation of this homework policy, under the direction of the administration, to better meet their classroom expectations.

4. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE

Close communication and cooperation between parents, teachers and administrators is essential in reaching the optimum educational experience for each child. Two parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled each year, however, if there is reason for concern throughout the year, a conference can be requested by either the parents or the teacher.

By working together, we can ensure a positive learning environment for the student. The first parent-teacher conference will be at the completion of the second six week marking period. Report cards will be given to the parents at this time.

The second parent-teacher conference will be at the completion of the fourth six week marking period. Should you be unable to make these scheduled conferences please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a convenient time to meet and pick up their report card.

5. REPORT CARDS

Students will receive report cards at the conclusion of each six week grading period. With the exception of the 2nd and 4th report cards, the other will be sent home with the student.

Please sign and return the report card promptly. Remember to treat the report cards with care as they are official documents.

There will be a charge for replacing a lost or damaged report card. The final report cards of students still owing money on their accounts will be held in the office until all outstanding charges have been paid.

7. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT TESTING

The Stanford Achievement Test is administered each spring to students in grades 4 and above.

The results are computerized and returned to the school.

They are available for inspection upon request to the homeroom teacher the next school year.

8. ATTENDANCE

The parent or guardian is legally responsible for the attendance and punctuality of the student. Classes are planned so that regular attendance is required if the student is to receive the full benefit of the instruction. Excessive absenteeism generally results in poor learning and unsatisfactory grades.

Absences—Students need a written excuse from a parent/guardian after each absence from school. If prolonged or chronic absences occur, the school may request a written explanation from the student’s physician. A record of poor attendance could necessitate retention. 10:30 a.m. so we can have the work ready when you arrive. Students must complete their homework equivalent to the time they missed (i.e. absent 1 day-have 1 day to complete homework. Absent 1 week-have 1 week to complete homework.)

Assignments that have been given a specific advanced date (i.e. term papers and large projects) will be required of the student whether the student is present or absent from school on that day. Please make arrangements to have the assignment delivered to school by the assigned class period.

A secondary student who is absent for only the day a test is given shall be expected to take the test the day he/she returns providing the test was announced prior to the date of absence.

Parents should call the school office at if a student is ill or will not be in attendance for any other reason.

If you are planning a family trip or know that your child will miss several days at a time, please discuss this with your child’s teachers and make arrangements to get his/her homework in advance. Students are responsible for getting their assignments and for the completion of unfinished assignments during absences. Assignments should be complete on the day the student returns to class. Please be conscientious in planning family holidays during school hours. If at all possible, please plan vacation time during scheduled breaks off of school.

For all other absences, it is most helpful if a parent can pick up missed assignments on the day of the absence.
